WashU will be hosting speaker Michelle Alexander, JD — author of the brilliant book The New Jim Crow
The event is at Graham Chapel on the main campus from 7-8:30pm on February 28th for those that want to go in person. It is also being streamed via Zoom so we will be hosting a watching event with dinner catered in COH 10 starting at 6:30pm!

In anticipation of the event, we’d recommend reading the book if you haven’t, but specifically the select chapters: Chapter 1 (outlines the history of the caste systems in the US), Chapter 3 (outlines how the War on Drugs targets people of color) and Chapter 4 (outlines how the system of mass incarceration continues to adversely affect African Americans after they are released from prison).
