The Prison Education Project at Washington University in St. Louis is excited to announce its inaugural Maggie Garb L ecture Series. This lecture series will feature dynamic scholars\, practiti oners\, grassroots organizers\, and impacted students from across the count ry who will speak on this year’s theme\, “The Power of Higher Education in Prison.” Additionally\, this series will feature an hour-long lecture from keynote speaker Syrita Steib\, a system-impacted grassroots organizer. This virtual lecture series is made possible by the Maggie Garb Foundation.
My name is Bryan Jordan. I was born and raised in the city of New Haven \, CT. I am the oldest of 5 siblings-2 brothers and 2 sisters. After drop ping out of high school\, I received my GED while incarcerated in 1994. Ho wever\, in 2016-while serving a sentence that would later be overturned-I w as accepted into Second Chance Educational Alliance to pursue Higher Educat ion in prison. Subsequently\, I went on to be 1 of 600 inmates to apply an d be accepted into Yale University. Since my release\, I’ve begun the enro llment process into Yale in pursuit of a law degree.
