About the designer

Anthony Bartley became the scientific graphic designer for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the Washington University School of Medicine in February of 2021. He helps members of the OBGYN department with preparing figures and illustrations for research papers, grants, and presentations. His goal is to improve science communication, particularly the communication between researchers and the public that is often sidelined.

Anthony graduated with a bachelor’s in Biology (and a minor in Fine Art) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2020. Prior to college he had already been involved in cell biology research at Chicago State University (2010-2016) and immunology and material science research at the University of Chicago (2015-2016). In college he performed research under Joan Strassmann in evolutionary biology while working as a graphic designer/photographer for WashU’s DevSTAC (Developer Student Technology Advisory Council).

Outside of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Anthony maintains a fine arts practice with a focus in oil painting, a graphic design and general art consulting business, and manages a musician. He finds joy in having the freedom to explore different creative disciplines.
