Heather Campbell, MD, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Appointed Vice Chair of Faculty Development for the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department

The department of OBGYN is delighted to announce the appointment of Heather Campbell, MD, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as the Vice Chair of Faculty Development for Obstetrics and Gynecology, effective October 1, 2025. Dr. Campbell has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication and capability, proving herself to be an ideal candidate for this role.
Dr. Campbell received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, and her Medical Doctorate from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT.
She completed her residency in OBGYN at the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY, and spent seven years in private practice before returning to the University of Utah to complete a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM). She was subsequently recruited to the faculty at the University of Utah, where she rose to the rank of Associate Professor in 2022.

Dr. Campbell is recognized as an outstanding clinician. At University of Utah Health, she provided comprehensive outpatient care for prenatal and postpartum patients, supervised inpatients admitted for antepartum complications, oversaw Labor and Delivery, and interpreted fetal ultrasounds. Dr. Campbell played a key role in developing institutional guidelines for managing women with fever during labor and handling trauma in pregnancy, including interdisciplinary simulation activities. She is also an expert in placental accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders and has contributed to the PAS Task Force at WashU.
In addition to her clinical excellence, Dr. Campbell is an exceptional educator. At the University of Utah, she excelled in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, serving as Clerkship Director and also as Vice Chair of Education from 2019-2024. She developed an innovative online curriculum for OBGYN residents that is tailored to specific rotations and levels of training. Dr. Campbell has mentored numerous residents and MFM fellows, serving on several master’s thesis committees. She has been nominated twice for the Leonard W. Jarcho Distinguished Teaching Award and received the Gold Star Teaching Award for Outstanding Clerkship Educator for three consecutive years from 2019 to 2021. Most recently, in Fall 2025, Dr. Campbell was inducted into the Academy of Educators at WashU Medicine.
Dr. Campbell’s expertise in education is recognized at a national level. She has been actively involved with the Council on Resident Education in OBGYN (CREOG) as a committee member since 2023. This committee, which reports to the American College of OBGYN, is responsible for establishing educational objectives and developing curricula for OBGYN residency programs. Additionally, Dr. Campbell is part of the Association of Professors in OBGYN (APGO) member engagement workgroup, which focuses on developing strategies to support Vice Chairs of Education and rural educators in OBGYN across the nation.
