The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at WashU Medicine administers a NIH NICHD-funded K12 grant for obstetrician-gynecologists who recently completed postgraduate clinical instruction and seek to obtain research training in women’s reproductive health.
Overview
To solve complex problems in women’s reproductive health, we need more obstetricians and gynecologists to conduct research. The WashU-Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) training program will provide didactic courses, one-on-one mentorship, and career development for OB/GYNs interested in pursuing research in women’s reproductive health for their career.
Scholars in the WashU-WRHR program will design a research project based on one of the program’s three core content themes:
1) Pregnancy and pregnancy complications,
2) Gynecologic cancer, and
3) Benign gynecology and reproductive health.
Additionally, each Scholar will be:
- IMMERSED in reproductive sciences at state-of-the-art research facilities.
- OFFERED discipline-specific courses, workshops, seminars, symposia, and individualized career development plans.
- PROVIDED didactic training, professional development and peer networking opportunities.
- GUIDED by an interdisciplinary mentoring team, all of whom have a record of training Scholars with diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
- PREPARED to become independent physician-scientists and future mentors.
- JOINING US to conduct rigorous, high-impact research in an affordable Midwestern city that is rich in culture, entertainment, outdoor exploration, restaurants, and more.
Included in the program
We offer competitive start-up funding, well-designed laboratory space, advanced training opportunities, and an accomplished group of mentors as part of the K12 program. Scholars will have access to outstanding core facilities in the Center for Reproductive Health Sciences and biorepositories for basic and translational research opportunities and an excellent research infrastructure in the Division of Clinical Research. They will also have access to world-class resources at WashU Medicine. Scholars will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary research community with access to state-of-the-art facilities, experienced mentors, and a collaborative research environment.
