Our training programs offer a variety of clinical and scientific opportunities for motivated learners seeking to grow in an innovative environment.
Focused on the integrated missions of patient care, research and education, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine seeks to develop the next generation of leaders in our field while also supporting continuing education for clinicians, researchers and educators.
Our training programs, with support from the Dean, strive to create an environment that focuses on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Graduate medical education
In addition to teaching and mentoring medical students, our department is home to a number of advanced medical training programs.
Residency: This highly-competitive and nationally recognized program offers residents broad experience in all aspects of women’s care, from a busy clinical service to a number of research opportunities. Residents train in a supportive and collegial environment designed to help each resident reach maximum potential.
Fellowships: We offer a full spectrum of programs that provide specialized training for physicians interested in:
Master of Science in Reproductive Sciences
The Master of Science in Reproductive Sciences (MSRS) program is a new, in-person degree program at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, launching in Fall 2025. It has two concentrations, Research and Clinical Embryology.
The MSRS program is dedicated to developing and nurturing a community of scholars who excel in the skills essential to reproductive sciences research and clinical embryology, possess a deep understanding of the complexities that accompany advancements in this dynamic area of research and medicine, and appreciate how their work both fits into and affects the greater reproductive health of our society.
Research training and seminars
Our department is a national leader in both clinical and translational research spanning the breadth and depth of obstetrics and gynecology. The well-funded investigators and diverse research projects within the department provide ample opportunity for research experience for students, residents, faculty and visitors.
Research during residency: Opportunities abound for our residents in basic and clinical research, and research training is incorporated throughout the residency program. This training culminates in a publishable research project, which residents carry out in collaboration with a full-time faculty member, presented at the department’s annual research day.
Research seminars: Several seminar series in basic and clinical research invite faculty, trainees and students to hear WUSM and visiting speakers, share works in progress, and learn about updates on funding sources, publication standards and more.
Postdoctoral Training Postdoctoral Fellowship in clinical outcomes research training in female lower urinary tract disorders: This T32 program is to introduce postdoctoral fellows to female lower urinary tract disorders and to train them to conduct high-quality clinical outcomes research in this emerging field.
