Each June, the end of slavery in America is commemorated with a holiday known as Juneteenth, or Freedom Day. This year Associate Professor Jack Kirkland, invites us to consider our country’s progression on the path toward freedom, from slavery to the Jim Crow era, to the Civil Rights Movement and Black Lives Matter. We will consider what “freedom” of African Americans means in its fullest sense, as well as its implications both for Black Americans and the entire nation.

This event is part of our Jubilee, celebrating Jack Kirkland’s 50 Years of Service to the Brown School community.
