Jeannie Kelly is an Associate Professor of OBGYN for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine division! She has been with us for 6 years.
What’s the best part of your job?
Hands down, the people! I couldn’t ask for better partners and trainees, or the amazing staff who make our department run. Getting to take care of the patients that our department serve also is one of the most meaningful and rewarding parts of life.

What do you do outside of work? family? hobbies?
I have three young kids who rule my life outside work, so right now it is a whirlwind of soccer games, birthday parties, dance and tennis lessons. We are out enjoying the outrageously family-friendly life that St. Louis has to offer on most weekends, and as a family we also love to travel. We are excited that the kids are now big enough to start some big trips over the next few years!
What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
I once accidentally bred my betta fish together in college – did you know some male bettas have short fins?? The process was honestly super cool to watch go down, as it is an entire day of egg-laying and nest building. But then I had 200 baby bettas who grew up and had to be kept in individual containers because they would otherwise fight each other. My entire dorm room was filled with cups of water each with a baby fish inside. I spent a few weeks desperately trying to give away fish to friends, and upkeep the rest, but ultimately donated the 150+ left to a local fish store who took pity on me. My three kids now share ownership of a single betta because I am too scarred from this experience to ever consider having more than one.

Name some things you’d take to a deserted island.
If I am in survival mode: A knife, a satellite phone, and flares. If this is more like, a vacation-vibe island: my dog, a beach read, and a good bottle of wine!
What is the best advice you’ve received and who was it from?
“Don’t be loyal to institutions, be loyal to people. Institutions don’t love you back, but people do.” Someone important here told me that once 🙂
