Bio
Dr. Szlachta-McGinn completed his medical school education at the University of Miami followed by residency in OB/GYN and joint gynecology-urology fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the University of California Los Angeles. He joins the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at WashU Medicine after one year in practice as faculty at the University of Illinois Chicago in Chicago, IL where he has taken care of patients with complex urogynecologic and pelvic floor disorders. He is skilled in vaginal and robotic-assisted laparoscopic procedures for pelvic organ prolapse; minimally invasive surgery for urinary incontinence; sacral neuromodulation; and surgical management of urethral diverticulum, vaginal fistula, and mesh complications. He is a current scholar in the NICHD-funded AUGS/DUKE UrogynCREST program, where he is using large datasets and data science methods to study the risk of cognitive impairment with anticholinergic medication use in individuals with overactive bladder from a health disparities perspective. His other research interests include the impact of the genitourinary microbiome on bladder pain and lower urinary tract symptoms, leveraging community engagement to reduce disparities in pelvic floor health, and data science research in surgical outcomes. Dr. Szlachta-McGinn is committed to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows the principles of gynecology, urogynecology, and surgery. In his personal life, he enjoys CrossFit, traveling, and trying new restaurants with his fiancé, Brandon.
