Jeannie Kelly, MD, MS, Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis, co-authored a new study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases examining glecaprevir-pibrentasvir (GLE/PIB) for hepatitis C treatment during pregnancy. The retrospective report, the first of its kind on this drug combination in pregnant patients, followed 14 women treated at WashU Medicine between 2024 and 2025. Ten completed the full course, all achieved undetectable viral loads by delivery, and no maternal or neonatal safety concerns were observed.
The findings support existing guidelines allowing shared decision-making around antenatal hepatitis C treatment and add real-world evidence for a shorter, insurance-preferred regimen. Dr. Kelly’s collaboration with the Division of Infectious Diseases reflects WashU Medicine’s ongoing work at the intersection of maternal-fetal medicine and infectious disease care.
