Disability Employment Awareness Month: Expanding Our Lens for Inclusion (Virtual – Zoom)

11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Zoom (Virtual)

The event is hosted by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month was created to recognize the important contributions that people living with disabilities make to the workplace and the overall economy.  This year’s theme is “America’s Recovery: Powered by Inclusion”. As Washington University School of Medicine continues to our journey toward inclusive excellence we must better understand, support and engage people living with disabilities in our community.

This event will start with the President of Paraquad, Aimee Wehmeier, presenting information about the number of people with disabilities in the workforce, why representation is important and what organizations can do to increase representation. She will also discuss the importance of an inclusive culture. Aimee will then moderate a discussion with a panel of individuals living with both visible and invisible disabilities in the workforce.  Panelists will share some of their experiences and discuss existing challenges.  Panelists will discuss what each of us can do to address those challenges and  intentionally foster a sense of belonging and inclusion for folks with disabilities at Washington University School of Medicine.
