What does being awarded this scholarship mean to you and your academic journey?
This scholarship was an incredible opportunity to visit a new part of the country, connect with amazing patients and physicians, and explore gynecologic oncology! It has certainly set me up for success for my future medical career!
What are you most excited to see, do, or learn during your time as a visiting student here?
I’m excited to explore a new city and healthcare system! It has been incredible to experience the differences between WashU and Colorado in terms of healthcare delivery and resources.
If you could look five years into the future, what impact do you hope to make in your field of study?
I want to study screening and prevention in ovarian cancer! I hope to create more standardized and validated methods to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer for women.
What was the exact moment or spark that made you realize, “Yes, this is what I want to study”?
Standing in my first C-section as a first-assist, armed with my suction, against the flood of amniotic fluid to deliver a baby. It was my introduction into the amazing world of women’s healthcare, and I knew that I had to keep working with the incredible providers and patients in it!
When you aren’t buried in textbooks or research, where can we find you? (Hobbies, hidden talents, etc.)
Hopefully skiing if the snow is good! Otherwise, around town trying new restaurants with friends or cooking at home!
What advice would you give to another student who is hesitant to apply for this scholarship next year?
Give it a shot! This scholarship is a great opportunity to reflect on your personal journey and how it has led you to OBGYN! At the end of the day, it’s a chance to show others who you are and what you are capable of!
