Why did you choose WashU for your residency?

The most important thing to me was finding a program where people had high respect for one another, their community, and OBGYN as a profession. I found that and so much more at WashU. With every zoom social and GME event, I was met with individuals who were excited to work hard and were passionate about supporting one another, advocating for their patients, and becoming strong mentors and teachers. When I interviewed, I found these attributes mirrored in the program’s leadership and knew it was the best program for me.

Why OBGYN?
I came into medical school leaning toward OBGYN and became very involved in my medical school’s free gynecology and prenatal clinics. Every night when I drove home, no matter how late clinic went, I always felt more gratified and fulfilled than I had coming in. I loved our patients; I loved talking about what they were excited and scared about; and I loved the people I worked with. My third year rotation sealed the deal when I loved the teamwork, skill building, and major life events on L&D and in the OR.

What are you looking forward to the most about being a resident here at WashU?
I’m excited to learn and grow as a physician, advocate, and educator from working with my faculty, peers, and patients. I’m new to Saint Louis and I’m looking forward to exploring the city so if you have any recommendations send them my way!

What goals do you hope to accomplish during your residency?
I want to graduate feeling prepared to offer excellent and thoughtful care to my patients. I aim to help guide medical students as they develop their clinical acumen and their path in medicine. I want to gain advocacy tools to create positive change in obstetric and gynecologic health on a local and state level.

What are your research interests?
Medical education, quality improvement

What do you do outside of work?
I love doing anything that gets me outside and with other people! Exampled include casual bike rides, fitness classes, trivia nights, kareoke. I also have a sincere love for comedy and watch SNL on a weekly basis.

What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
I grew up sailing competitively!

We know it’s early, but do you have any fellowship plans for after residency?
I see myself becoming an academic generalist but part of what drew me to WashU was the wide exposure to sub-specialties so I’m excited to explore them over the next 4 years!

What advice would you give medical students applying for a residency in OBGYN?

Take advantage of all of the caring and knowledgeable mentors you have. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance at any stage of this process. We’re all here because we love this profession and are excited about the future of it! Most importantly, remember that the match does not define you. You will find excellent training and caring mentors wherever you go. Your path may not look like how you expected it to but if you focus on your patients and growing as a physician, you will find it very rewarding. I did not expect to find myself doing a General Surgery preliminary year as I did last year and it has been the most meaningful year of my life.
