Washington University School of Medicine has received NIH/NIDA funding for a randomized controlled trial testing Contingency Management, a proven incentive-based treatment approach, to help pregnant and postpartum patients with substance use disorder stay in treatment longer. Overdose is a top-three cause of pregnancy-associated death, and up to 80% of patients stop treatment within a year postpartum. The two-site trial, led by Jeannie Chen Kelly, MD, and Ana Baumann Walker, PhD, will enroll 270 patients at WashU’s CARE Clinic and at University of Maryland in Baltimore.
Supported by NIDA/NIH under Award R33DA062321, part of the NIH HEAL Initiative.
