The Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research has released its 2024 rankings for top NIH funding to US medical schools. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is proud to share that they are ranked #8 in the country. This demonstrates ongoing growth in a highly competitive research environment.
This accomplishment reflects the outstanding contributions of the department’s faculty, whose innovation, curiosity, and dedication drive advances in basic, translational, and clinical research. The department also acknowledges the essential role of its graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, clinical fellows, and staff, whose expertise and commitment help bring scientific ideas to life..
In 2024, several early-career investigators in the department secured new or first-time awards, and the NCI-funded SPORE program continues to flourish. In addition to NIH support, the department’s researchers have secured funding from a wide range of prestigious organizations, including the Gates Foundation, American Cancer Society, Lalor Foundation, GOG Foundation, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation, American Association for Cancer Research, Burroughs Wellcome Fund, Foundation for Women’s Cancer, and the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. While these sources are not reflected in the NIH rankings, they underscore the depth and breadth of the department’s thriving research enterprise.
