Dr. Nandini Raghuraman has been named Chief of the Division of Clinical Research in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology effective October 1, 2023.
Building upon the legacy of our previous directors, Raghuraman will oversee the Division of Clinical Research, which provides specialized facilities and services to support clinical research in women’s reproductive health.

Dr. Raghuraman earned her undergraduate degree and medical school training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, OBGYN residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and her MFM fellowship at Washington University in St Louis where she also completed a Master’s in Clinical Investigation. She stayed on faculty since her graduation in 2018.
Dr. Raghuraman’s research focuses on intrapartum interventions and implementation of evidence-based labor management. She has completed several NIH and foundation funded prospective studies and randomized trials investigating intrapartum interventions and response to fetal monitoring with the goal of optimizing maternal and neonatal morbidity at the time of delivery. She was the recipient of a K23 award from the NICHD and the SMFM/AAOGF scholars award that funded her early work in implementation science and studying the effectiveness of maternal oxygen supplementation in response to Category II fetal heart rate tracings. She is currently leading a R01-funded multi-center randomized trial expanding her work in maternal oxygen supplementation and intrauterine resuscitation.

Additionally, Dr. Raghuraman serves as the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program Director at WashU. She is a member of the Washington University Academy of Educators with a special interest in research mentorship in medical education. She has authored over 80 manuscripts related to clinical obstetrics and mentored several trainees in our department. Nationally, she serves as an Associate Editor for AJOG SMFM edition and is a member of the ACOG Clinical Practice Guideline Committee. She is also one of the Editors of the Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring textbook.
