Ranked among the top women’s health fellowships, our 3-year Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship prepares trainees to achieve excellence in academic medicine.
Program highlights
- Professional
Our fellows are fully integrated as members of the department, functioning as faculty members and recognized as peers. In labor and delivery, fellows train with board-certified in maternal-fetal medicine physicians in the inpatient and outpatient areas. Significant training in prenatal diagnosis, ultrasound and fetal care is also provided. - Tailored
Individual schedules within the three-year fellowship are personalized for each trainee’s professional goals, and many fellows hone their specialization by pursuing an additional graduate degree during their training. - Experience driven
Nationally ranked, Barnes-Jewish Hospital delivers more than 4,000 patients each year; about half are high-risk pregnancies. - Research directed
Our robust research enterprise offers extensive opportunity for research at every stage, with a minimum 12 months of protected research built into the program. Partnering with an established mentor, fellows have access to facilities, collaborators and resources across the university. - Highly productive
Our MFM fellows publish and present at one of the highest rates in the country, averaging seven peer-reviewed publications per fellow by graduation. - Engaged in teaching
Heavily engaged in the education of residents and medical students, our fellows are frequent recipients of the department’s annual teaching awards. Most of our recent graduates hold academic positions at institutions throughout the country.
In-depth and introductory topics at conferences, graduate courses and tutorial sessions round out the training experience to prepare our fellows for board certification as maternal-fetal medicine specialists
